A Message from our Beloved Director of Music, Dr. Pierre Tang

It is with a sad heart that Pali Pres will say "goodbye" to our amazing Director of Music, Pierre Tang, at the end of this month. Pierre has been a part of the Pali Pres family since March of 2022 and has blessed us with his incredible talent and leadership, deep passion for music, and sincere faith. Pierre has accepted a full-time teaching position at the University of San Diego and we wish him nothing but the best as he moves into the next chapter of his life and career. Thankfully he will not be too far away! We look forward to celebrating Pierre in worship in October and seeing him at church whenever he is in Los Angeles.  Beginning September 1, Michael Payne (our current Bass Section Leader) will serve as our Interim Director of Music. We are very blessed to have Michael, along with all of our choir members and musicians, lead us in worship each Sunday!

A Message from our Interim Director of Music, Michael Payne

Hello! Many of you already know me as the bass section leader here at Pali Pres, but my musical life extends well beyond the choir loft! I am a professional bass-baritone, voice teacher, and church musician with nearly 15 years of experience in church music. I currently teach applied voice at California State University, Dominguez Hills, while pursuing my Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Claremont Graduate University. Growing up in the Southern Baptist tradition in Tennessee, the church was where I first discovered my love of singing and where much of my earliest musical training took place. Church music has remained a special part of my life ever since, and I am incredibly honored and excited to serve as Interim Director of Music and continue making meaningful, beautiful music with our Pali Pres community.

Good News Corner

Kristin (Hill) Van Vlack came to town for a few days from Meridian, Idaho to visit family and friends! Last week, she joined Jerry and Joani Kaczorowski at their house for lunch. Good news; she and her daughter, Alex, will be coming back to the Palisades after Alex’s graduation from nursing school next May with a Master’s Degree in Nursing. They are counting the days until they can return.

If you are a woman of working age, we invite you to join us for “WOW” - Women of Working Age - a fellowship group based on coming together as women of faith for a time of sharing and learning together. Please email Pastor Grace for more information and to RSVP. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, September 8th, at Joanna Darvish’s home. Please bring a small dish to share. (Address will be shared with RSVP!)

Creative Arts Sunday

We celebrated Creative Arts Sunday with BPC last Sunday! Both churches came together to give thanks that God has created beauty in so many places in our lives and world! During worship, we were blessed by a wonderful presentation written by BPC’s worship director, Nancy Reeves, about welcoming one another in church and in our lives.  A big thank you to Javon Frazier and Caroline Nick for stepping up and taking part! After worship, we were thankful for Jubilee Park’s artwork that was displayed on the patio alongside the other amazing art displays indicative of God’s love and creativity.

Habitat for Humanity in the Palisades

Great news for the Palisades! We have the opportunity to assist in a Habitat for Humanity event in the Palisades, one of the largest Habitat LA has ever done in their 36-year history!

Come and join us as we help bring Palisadians home this September. Our church site will be a welcome and staging area for the event, and we need your help in hospitality.

Our event support volunteers will play a critical role leading up to and throughout the Sept. 23-26 Wildfire Recovery Community Build, so let us know if you want to join us that week. More information to come. Contact Missions & Outreach Elder David Wood or Pastor Grace to sign up.

You Can Be a Snack Angel!

We are looking for volunteers to serve as Sunday Snack Angels for the fall! On the snack table each Sunday is a sign up sheet for you to select a date to provide snacks for our church family. You can also contact Operations Manager, Will Saunders, and he will send you the electronic signup sheet.

If you are unable to physically pick up and deliver the snacks yourself, please make a note next to your name and you can donate $100 to cover the cost of all the food for one Sunday. This donation can also be made online HERE. Please contact Elder Lynette Shishido, our snack captain, or Pastor Grace for more information and to sign up!
