Our Parking Lot at Pali PresBetween January 10th and February 8th, roughly 70,000 pounds of brush, branches, tree trunks, logs and stumps were illegally dumped onto our parking lot. Nobody stepped up to claim responsibility or offer remediation. In an act of interfaith generosity, the Church of Scientology generously volunteered to remove the debris for free. Between February 3rd and February 8th, they worked tirelessly and had almost completed this monumental task, only to have all of their progress erased when somebody decided to dump again the night of February 8th. Will Saunders, our Office & Operations Manager, was working closely with the Scientologists and everyone was devastated when they arrived the morning of February 9th to see we were back at square one. After a litany of calls and meetings between Will and the offices of the Mayor, Councilwoman Traci Park, Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, the US Army Corps of Engineers, LA County Recovers, the EPA and the LA Department of Sanitation (LASAN), a solution has finally been agreed upon. Beginning the weekend of April 12th, and continuing every weekend until the job is done, LASAN will be removing the debris free of charge. This has been a tedious and frustrating journey and we are so relieved to finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.
