Exciting Worship News to Share!

Our Session is happy to announce that beginning September 20th, we will resume Pali Pres worship services with one significant (and exciting) change. Due to the extraordinary hospitality of the good folks at Brentwood Pres, we will begin our worship at 11:30 a.m.! What a blessing it will be to worship together as a Pali Pres family in the morning hours!

Please note that the turnaround will be a bit tight between the conclusion of BPC's service at 11:05 a.m. and the beginning of our service at 11:30 a.m. We're confident it can be managed, but we appreciate everyone's understanding and patience as we navigate this new schedule and its logistics.

Combining with BPC for worship this summer has been a true gift, and we look forward to future joint services with our Brentwood sisters and brothers in Christ. We give thanks for their hospitality and their willingness to rearrange their morning worship schedule to make this new worship time possible for us!

A Prayer for the 25th Anniversary of September 11th Attacks

Almighty God, we commend to you all who died in the 9/11 attacks.  Over 70 countries lost loved ones that day: family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors, heroes.  In the face of all this loss, we claim your grace, your faithfulness, and your power to bring good out of evil.

Compassionate One, it’s been twenty-five years, yet the harm continues. Comfort all who continue to mourn the loss of loved ones. Come with assurance and peace for all who remain traumatized, anxious, or fearful for the future. Come with protection and freedom for all who continue to live in the midst of hostility and oppression.

Draw together leaders of every nation. Give them ears to hear your wisdom and the courage to respond. Inspire them to work together for peace, justice, and freedom. Inspire us, too.

God of the Nations, hear our prayer for our enemies and for ourselves. Help us love and pray for those who profit from hate and destruction. Help us stop the injustice. We claim your abiding, your humility, and your strength as we strive to fulfill this call.

Help us recognize our contributions to conflict. Help us understand the hurt that feeds the hate. Create in us clean hearts that beat with your unconditional compassion. Fill us all with your light and make us all instruments of your peace.

Our world remains a dangerous place, O God, but with you there is shalom and hope. With you there is persevering and purpose. You are our Rock, our Shield, our Defender forever.

Amen.

Come Sing with the Pali Pres Choir!

Have you ever thought about singing in the choir? Come give it a try! Whether you’re an experienced musician, haven’t sung in a choir since high school, or have never sung in a choir at all, you are welcome. No audition or previous experience is required!

The Pali Pres Choir is returning from summer break, and this is the perfect time to join us! Our first rehearsal will be Thursday, September 17, from 7:00–9:00 PM at Brentwood Presbyterian Church, as we prepare for the choir’s first Sunday back on September 20.

Going forward, we’ll rehearse every Thursday evening from 7:00–9:00 PM. On Sunday mornings, we meet at 10:45 AM to warm up, review our music, and put everything together before the 11:30 AM worship service.

Choir is a wonderful way to make music, meet new people, and be an active part of worship at Pali Pres. My goal is to fill our choir loft with as many voices as possible, and there is always room for one more!

So, if you’ve ever been curious about choir, September 17 is your chance to give it a try! Come spend a Thursday evening with us and see what you think. All voices and all experience levels are welcome. I’d love to have you sing with us!

Habitat for Humanity in the Palisades

Please join us as we welcome and support Habitat for Humanity’s Palisades build event this month!

Please contact Pastor Grace and David Wood, our Missions and Outreach Elder, if you are interested in volunteering on a worksite.

If you would like to volunteer to support the Habitat staff solely on the Pali Pres campus, click here, or scan the QR code below.

You can sign up to help greet and share hospitality in shifts on either Thursday, September 24th or Friday, September 25th; if you would like to help set up on Wednesday, September 23rd, Pastor Grace will be on campus to greet Habitat staff and help set up the staging area for the days ahead.

Good News Corner

Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays our faithful congregation! Thank you to all who braved the inclement weather to make last Sunday's 8am onsite worship service possible. Although the rain was cold, our hearts were warmed by a touching Labor Day weekend sermon surrounding the importance of shared work, and perhaps of more importance, rest!
