Dear Beloveds,

This coming Sunday is one of my favorites at our church. It was started many years ago by one of our members (I believe it was Bruce Brough) as a day when we could acknowledge our amazing deacons, honor them, and thank them for their heart-filled service to all of us.

Each year, our deacons answer the call to serve with love, compassion, and energy, and they truly are the hearts of our church. If you have served as a deacon in the past, you will know how much support is needed behind the scenes.

Our deacons play such an essential role in the church for so many reasons: they are ordained to serve the church and its members and friends and they work to serve in tasks such as caring for the sick, assisting when there has been a crisis, and providing practical help and support to the congregation. Our deacons also provide important leadership within the church; they work closely with the pastors to ensure church members’ needs are being met. Without our deacons, we could not function the way we do in so many aspects of our church!

You have the opportunity to participate in the ministry of our deacons! This Sunday, there will be special envelopes set out to give to the Deacons’ Fund. Every bit of this fund goes toward ministry that our deacons perform for our church. We hope that you will consider helping our deacons in their service this way. You can also give to the Deacons’ Fund through our website as well!

Please join us this Sunday as we thank all our deacons for their deep love and commitment to our church family. After worship, our deacons, in the spirit of their service, will be bringing and serving our snacks on the patio. Please be sure to take the time to meet and greet your deacon, and thank them for the care they give daily to all of us. They are truly blessings to all of us!

We are saddened to announce the passing of church member Bob Nathan, who valiantly battled cancer. Bob was surrounded by loved ones and we are thankful that he is no longer in pain and is resting peacefully in the arms of the Lord. Memorial plans have not yet been made.

Spring Carnival Day finally arrived on Friday, April 14th! The sky was blue and the feeling was warm with all the activities provided for the children and their families: pony rides, face painting, train rides, glitter tattoos, balloon twisters, games, food, bouncer and fancy frames with a picture to commemorate the day! What could be more fun than to be with your teachers, friends and family at school celebrating Pali Pres! A huge thank you to all the parents for making it happen with their fundraising donations!

Not from a lack of effort, our church softball team was dealt a tough loss on Monday. While there were certainly some flashes of greatness, Pali Pres just couldn’t seem to get out of their own way, and not even a late inning rally was able to get them out of the early hole they found themselves in. Despite the scoreboard, fun was had all around! We hope to see you at our next game!

National Day of Prayer

A public prayer meeting in celebration of the National Day of Prayer will be held in Santa Monica on Thursday, May 4 from 8am to 9am at Tongva Park (1615 Ocean Avenue). Let us all keep our nation in our prayers!

Sunday Sanctuary Flowers

A BIG thank you to the Singh Family for donating flowers last week!

This week's flowers are brought to us by Evelyn & Geoff Moyer with love for all!

We invite all of our church members and friends to provide donations for flowers to adorn our sanctuary, along with a special dedication of your choosing. The cost is $75 per week.

Please contact Will at will@palipres.org and the church will order flowers from a local florist to be placed in the chancel on Sunday morning. The flowers will then be taken to one of our members/friends after the service.
