A Message from our Beloved Director of Music, Dr. Pierre Tang

It is with a sad heart that Pali Pres will say "goodbye" to our amazing Director of Music, Pierre Tang, at the end of this month. Pierre has been a part of the Pali Pres family since March of 2022 and has blessed us with his incredible talent and leadership, deep passion for music, and sincere faith. Pierre has accepted a full-time teaching position at the University of San Diego and we wish him nothing but the best as he moves into the next chapter of his life and career. Thankfully he will not be too far away! We look forward to celebrating Pierre in worship on September 20th and seeing him at church whenever he is in Los Angeles. Beginning September 1, Michael Payne (our current Bass Section Leader) will serve as our Interim Director of Music. We are very blessed to have Michael, along with all of our choir members and musicians, lead us in worship each Sunday! We will provide additional updates in next week's newsletter.

September 13th Joint Luncheon with BPC

As the summer comes to a close, we invite everyone to please join us for a joint luncheon with Brentwood Presbyterian Church after worship on September 13th! Tickets are $10 for adults and children are free!  Stay tuned for more details.

Build Homes in Mexico This October!

Have you ever wanted to help build a home for a family in need? Here’s your opportunity! Members and friends of Pali Pres are invited to join Brentwood Presbyterian Church (BPC) on its annual home-building trip to Mexico (passport required).

The team will depart at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 10th, from the Best Western Americana Inn in San Diego and return Monday, October 12th in the late afternoon/evening.

The cost is $510 for ages 13 and older and $300 for children 12 and under. This includes meals, transportation into Mexico from San Diego, building materials, and tent lodging.

If you’re interested in participating, please contact David Wood, Elder for Mission & Outreach, by August 30th. David will be attending the trip as well.

Come be part of this life-changing opportunity to serve alongside fellow believers and make a lasting difference for a family in need!

Creative Arts Sunday - THIS Sunday, August 23rd

This Sunday, August 23rd, the worship service will feature a 7-8 minute dramatic reading, and a visual arts faire will be held outside on the front patio. A bi-annual event at BPC, it is a fun time for people to share their creative gifts with the community. Any visual art can be represented - painting, drawing, photography, sewing, knitting, sculpture, etc.

This is an all ages event!

If you are a woman of working age, we invite you to join us for “WOW” - Women of Working Age - a fellowship group based on coming together as women of faith for a time of sharing and learning together. Please email Pastor Grace for more information and to RSVP. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, September 8th, at Joanna Darvish’s home. Please bring a small dish to share.(Address will be shared with RSVP!)

You Can Be a Snack Angel!

We are looking for volunteers to serve as Sunday Snack Angels for the fall! On the snack table each Sunday is a sign up sheet for you to select a date to provide snacks for our church family. You can also contact Operations Manager, Will Saunders, and he will send you the electronic signup sheet.

If you are unable to physically pick up and deliver the snacks yourself, please make a note next to your name and you can donate $100 to cover the cost of all the food for one Sunday. This donation can also be made online HERE. Please contact Elder Lynette Shishido, our snack captain, or Pastor Grace for more information and to sign up!

This week’s refreshments are provided by Brentwood Presbyterian Church!
