A Prayer for Washington State Wildfire and Columbia Earthquake Victims

In response to these two terrible natural disaster situations, we ask all Pali Pres members and friends to pray and, as they are able, to donate to worthy aid organizations. Let us pray together:

Compassionate Lord, we pray for those who have been devastated by recent natural disasters. We remember those who have lost their lives so suddenly. We hold in our hearts the families forever changed. Bring them consolation and comfort. Surround them with our prayer for strength. Bless those who have survived and heal their memories of trauma and devastation. May they have the courage to face the long road of rebuilding ahead.

We ask your blessing on all those who have lost their homes, their livelihoods, their security, and their hope. Bless the work of relief agencies and those proving emergency assistance. May their work be guided by the grace and strength that comes from you alone.

Help us to respond with generosity in prayer, in assistance, and in aid to the best of our abilities. Keep our hearts focused on the needs of those affected, even after the crisis is over. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Good News Corner

While on a recent trip to Washington, D.C. with his family, Pastor Matt had the special opportunity to meet with officials from FEMA and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), two federal agencies that have significantly helped Pali Pres in our recovery and rebuilding efforts. Pictured below are Pastor Matt and his family with incoming FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton (far left) and acting FEMA Administrator Bob Fenton (far right). Also below, is a photo of Pastor Matt with HUD Secretary (and part-time Baptist pastor!) Scott Turner.

What a wonderful time we had at Will Rogers Beach! Thank you to the Children & Families Ministry for their hard work in creating these fun opportunities for fellowship!

Build Homes in Mexico This October!

Have you ever wanted to help build a home for a family in need? Here’s your opportunity! Members and friends of Pali Pres are invited to join Brentwood Presbyterian Church (BPC) on its annual home-building trip to Mexico (passport required).

The team will depart at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 10th, from the Best Western Americana Inn in San Diego and return Monday, October 12th in the late afternoon/evening.

The cost is $510 for ages 13 and older and $300 for children 12 and under. This includes meals, transportation into Mexico from San Diego, building materials, and tent lodging.

If you’re interested in participating, please contact David Wood, Elder for Mission & Outreach, by August 30th. David will be attending the trip as well.

Creative Arts Sunday - Sunday, August 23rd

The Sunday, August 23rd worship service will feature a 7-8 minute dramatic scripture reading, and a visual arts faire will be held outside on the front patio. A bi-annual event at BPC, it is a fun time for people to share their creative gifts with the community. Any visual art can be represented - painting, drawing, photography, sewing, knitting, sculpture, etc. All spots have been filled for the dramatic readings. Please sign up to display your art here.

You Can Be a Snack Angel!

We are looking for volunteers to serve as Sunday Snack Angels for the fall! On the snack table each Sunday is a sign up sheet for you to select a date to provide snacks for our church family. You can also contact Operations Manager, Will Saunders, and he will send you the electronic signup sheet.

If you are unable to physically pick up and deliver the snacks yourself, please make a note next to your name and you can donate $100 to cover the cost of all the food for one Sunday. This donation can also be made online HERE. Please contact Elder Lynette Shishido, our snack captain, or Pastor Grace for more information and to sign up!

Last week’s refreshments were provided by the Pali Pres Children & Families Ministry for “Aloha Sunday”! This week’s refreshments are provided by Brentwood Presbyterian Church!
