Dear Pali Pres,

On this day in 1820 a remarkable woman was born in New York. Fanny Crosby was a mission worker, poet, lyricist, and composer. She is perhaps best known as a hymnist, a prolific hymnist. Crosby wrote more than 8,000 hymns and gospel songs in her lifetime, with two of her best known hymns being “Blessed Assurance” and “To God Be the Glory” (which we will sing this Sunday in honor of Fanny’s birthday).

What makes Fanny Crosby’s life even more remarkable is the fact that when she was an infant, she lost her sight as a result of a doctor’s malpractice. Even so, she never let her disability distract her from the work God called her to do. A person of deep faith, Crosby worked tirelessly to answer God’s call, first as a teacher and later as a rescue mission worker in New York City. All throughout her adult life she continued to compose hymns, often commenting that her blindness was a gift which enabled her to focus on her music and writing. Incredibly, the story goes that Cosby would sometimes compose seven hymns a day, memorizing up to a dozen before dictating them to her secretary!

While she was alive, and long after she passed, Fanny Crosby served as an inspiration and example of faith to many. Her legacy lives on to this day in the hymns we sing, which enable us to focus our hearts on God’s goodness, provision, and love.

Easter Lily Dedications

Our annual Easter Lily Dedication is here! For $15 you can sponsor a lily that will adorn the sanctuary for Easter Sunday. You can take the lilies home with you after the service, or choose to leave them behind and they will be given to someone in need of some extra TLC this Easter!

Order forms are in the sanctuary pews; please attach to them cash or check with the paperclip provided and place them in the collection plate. You can also pay online, but dedications are limited to 50 characters. If your dedication(s) exceed(s) 50 characters, please contact Will in the church office.

The deadline for orders is Palm Sunday, April 2nd.

Change for Change

This Sunday the Children and Family Ministries (CFM) Committee will be launching our “Change for Change” ministry. We began this ministry last Easter and it was a great success! Your help is greatly appreciated. Here’s how it works:

1) Pick up a “Change for Change” donation box after worship on March 26th or April 2nd. Each donation box will be unique, and hand-crafted in the weeks to come by our children in Sunday School!

2) Fill the donation box with your spare change (bills and checks are fine too!).

3) Bring your donation box with you to church on Easter Sunday,
April 9th, for a special dedication.

Every penny collected through these “Change for Change” boxes will go to the Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness to help spread the hope and joy of Easter to those who are less fortunate.

Let’s all chip in to help make a change in someone’s life.

Vacation Bible School Returns to Pali Pres

Please share the good news and register your children at the VBS Tent on Easter Sunday to receive your “early bird registration.”

This year’s theme is “Hero Hotline”, as we will explore Romans 14: 19 - “so let’s strive for the things that bring peace and the things that build each other up” - and how we can all be heroes for God in our daily lives.

Dates: August 7 - 11, 2023

Time: 9am - 12pm (aftercare available)

Grades: K-5

Location: Pali Pres Campus

If you or your teen-aged child or grandchild would like to be a volunteer, we have several opportunities on the following teams (All require a lead and an assistant):

Registration, greeters, general session/songs, snack coordination, arts & crafts instruction, Bible stories, games, VBS store, running errands, providing tech and A/V assistance.

All Holy Week services will be livestreamed.

Maundy Thursday is a joint service between Pali Pres & Brentwood Pres and will be held at the Brentwood campus.

Good Friday is a joint service between Pali Pres & Brentwood Pres and will be held at the Pali Pres campus.

Barbara ‘Babs’ Nathan Memorial

A memorial service for our beloved church member and friend, Babs Nathan, will be held at our church on March 25th at 2pm. A reception will follow in Janés Hall.

Sunday Sanctuary Flowers

A BIG thank you to Pat & Bill Moran for donating flowers last week!

This week's flowers are brought to us by Brendan Kim & Jesselyn Chong, in celebration of their anniversary!

We invite all of our church members and friends to provide donations for flowers to adorn our sanctuary, along with a special dedication of your choosing. The cost is $75 per week.

Please contact Will at will@palipres.org and the church will order flowers from a local florist to be placed in the chancel on Sunday morning. The flowers will then be taken to one of our members/friends after the service.
