We include Bible stories and songs, statements of Christian
faith, and specific biblical concepts. Bible stories and songs are
chosen that are age-appropriate, not simply because they are Bible
stories. We realize that in many ways the Bible is an adult book
written by adults for adults.
We recognize that many aspects of Christian belief that are
central to our faith are generally too abstract in concept for teaching
to preschool children.
The basic religious concepts we are trying to share with children of this age are:
1. There is a God.
2. God loves each of us and each of us is a worthy person in God's eyes.
3. God forgives the wrongs we do when we fail to trust, obey, or love God.
4. We know these things because Jesus came to tell and show us that they are true
Extended Day Program "Stay Day"
We offer two different Stay Day programs.
"Mini Stay Day" runs from 12:15 - 1:15 pm.
Children of all ages comes together on the big yard to run and play with friends.
Children are picked up on the yard at 1:15 pm.
Full-Stay Day: The children who stay until 3:00 pm share outside time with the
Mini Stay Day group. At 1:30 pm, the children go into either the yellow or green room
where they engage in theme activities.
PPNS is required by law to provide the children with "quiet time", lasting 30 minutes.
Each child is given their own mat and sheet where they can rest. Soft music is played.
Children are not required to sleep - looking at books or quietly doing a puzzle on the
mat is acceptable.
Safety/Emergency Information
Children will not be released to anyone other than their own
parents or other adults authorized in writing in our office. In case of
disaster that renders our facility unsafe, we would vacate and walk to
Palisades High School where the children may be picked up.
Palisades Presbyterian Nursery School has
developed the capability to be self reliant until emergency response
personnel can help. Based on a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan
for the church and school detailed procedures for every identified
potential emergency that may occur at the site has been formulated.
An Eagle Scout candidate, Will St.
John, of our sponsored Troop #400 under the leadership of Lieutenant
Curt Massey of The Culver City Police Department (Lieutenant Massey is a parent of a child in the school) and Julie
Baczewski, Director of our Pre-School have devised this program. Both
Church and School staffs are being apprised of the complete details.
Sharing our Faith
We recognize that many families of children enrolled in PPNS are members of other
churches or religious organizations in the community, and we encourage them to further
educate their children in their faith through those existing relationships.
For those families without an active church relationship or church family, we hope
that your relationship to PPNS will grow into a larger relationship with Pacific
Palisades Presbyterian Church, as we are
eager to share our faith with you
Our Staff
Our school is Christian-oriented but not denominationally
exclusive. We seek to provide an atmosphere and program in which the
Christian faith is taught, stressing those elements of the faith that
are common to all Christians. The PPNS Director and PPNS teachers are
prepared and
committed to sharing the basics of the Christian faith with our
students.
Held every Wednesday at 9:15 am. It is a special time when
the whole school can join together for games, singing, and a Bible story.
Parents are invited to attend Chapel with their children.
Education is a life-long process. Through our nursery school, it is hoped that
there will be a closer relationship between our Sunday and our weekday education programs.
A child who feels happy and secure in the atmosphere of our new church campus will
hopefully come to know the warm and supportive community of the larger church organization.
We hope that parents, too, will feel this sense of community. Parents are encouraged to
volunteer in the classroom and to participate in the Parents Involvement Program (PIP)
as one way to strengthen and encourage them in their own roles as the primary and lifelong
teachers of their children.
