Read Any Good Books Lately?

New Readers and Regulars are Invited: Our Reading Round Table’s next meeting is Thursday, March 30, 5:30 – 7 pm in the church library. We enjoyed a spirited discussion last month and look forward to another, this time on a novel: Longbourn, by Jo Baker, an intriguing “Upstairs-Downstairs” take on Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen).

April Food For Thought

Join us Thursday, April 20th at 11:30am for our Food for Thought series. Our speaker will be John Harlow, Editor & Chief of the Palisadian Post. Subject: “My 40 Elections: From African bullies to Margaret Thatcher, from Mr. Obama to Mr. Bonin, journalist tales from behind the scenes of election nights around the world.”  Reservations a must, please sign up after church, by calling the church office 310-454-0366 or email at

John Harlow is the grandson of an Irish spy who betrayed the “Brits,” the son of a photojournalist who exposed a society scandal and, since last June, editor-in-chief of the Palisadian-Post. He has reported from London on Americans and from America on Brits in Hollywood. He flew above Kuwait during Desert Storm, and interviewed unsavory people in Tokyo and Nairobi. He has worked for newspaper tycoons such as Robert Maxwell, who looted his paper before jumping off a boat, Conrad Black, who become a British peer before being jailed for fraud, and, for the last 24 years on The Sunday Times of London, for Rupert Murdoch, who has a lot of attorneys. And John says he still lives and breathes the newspaper business, whatever it is today.

The Mah Jongg group meets on the LAST Saturday of each month from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Church Library.  All levels are welcome, even those who have “never played” or even seen a set of Mah Jongg Chinese Tiles.  It’s a fun game, which can lead to new friendships, as well as energetic rivalries!   We’ll even teach you how to play!  The gatherings are free to attend, and include a light meal for lunch.  But you must RSVP, so that a place at the table can be reserved for you.  RSVP by sending your name, phone number, and email address to:

We meet once a month at 5:30 pm for dinner and fellowship.  Our purpose is to develop our relationships through a common spiritual foundation. We start with a short bible study (there is no homework!) and discussion and continue our fellowship with dinner.
