Our next Food For Thought will be on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 11:30am in Janés Hall.  Lunch is complimentary (donations only).  RESERVATIONS REQUIRED, please call 310-454-0366.  Our speaker will be Henry Ansgar (Andy) Kelly, professor of English at UCLA and one-time Director of UCLA’s Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies, completed his doctoral studies at Harvard, where he was a Junior Fellow in the Society of Fellows. A former Jesuit seminarian and cleric in minor orders (including exorcist), he specializes in Church history and religious studies, and has written on such subjects as the prosecutions of Joan of Arc and Galileo, including a recent article, “Judicial Torture in Canon Law and Church Tribunals: From Gratian to Galileo.”  Among his many books are The Matrimonial Trials of Henry VIII and Thomas More’s Trial by Jury.  Three of his books are on the figure of the Devil as he appears in the Bible and Christian tradition, the latest being Satan: A Biography (Cambridge University Press, 2006).

Prayer Room (New Update)Do you prefer solo prayer time?  Or to join with others to pray?  Please join us in the Prayer Room any Sunday.  We will gather as a group 15 minutes after the end of the church service in the Chapel, which will still give you a chance to get coffee and visit with friends first.

We will be praying specifically for those people who have filled out Prayer Request forms and placed them into our Prayer Wall.  Jesus promises that whenever two or more are gathered in His name, there He will be in our midst.  We claim that promise.  All are welcome to this group prayer time!

In addition, the Chapel will also be open for individual prayer time throughout the week.  Anyone is invited to come pray on their own anytime during regular open church office hours.  Suggested more generic prayers for our church family and community are written on cards in baskets inside the Chapel for individual use or meditation.

We are starting a new Men’s Bible Study on Thursday mornings.  It will take place in the Youth Room from 7:00-8:00am.  It will be led by Rev. Eric Schaefer and Dr. Dan Caldwell.  The theme for the fall will be “Fathers and Sons”.  We will look at father and son relationships from the Bible and discuss what we can learn about these relationships in our own lives.  We will meet each Thursday morning until Christmas, except for Thanksgiving.  We encourage all men in our congregation to be a part of this new Bible study.
