Dear Parents of 8th Graders,
I would like to invite your 8th graders to be a part of our 2016 Confirmation class at Palisades Presbyterian Church. Confirmation is a time to ask questions about faith, to learn what the Bible has to say about faith and our response to God’s call. I will be teaching a six week class beginning on Sunday, April 24th for 8th graders on the basics of the Christian faith and what it means to be Presbyterian. The conferment will officially join the church on Sunday, June 5th at the evening Sunset Crossing service. Those who have not yet been baptized will be baptized on June 5th.
We will also have a joint meeting for kids and parents on a date to be announced to discuss: the theology of our high school youth group, dates for the upcoming mission trips (Belize, Scotland and Dominican), leadership training, weekly times for teens to work with younger children, in-town service opportunities and discipleship.
This year we are including a four year timeline of what students need to be involved in academically, with extracurricular activities, testing and writing essays. Our hope is to create a four year high school program that teaches our teenagers to live a balanced life of faith, leadership, service and genuine relationships.
All teens, 8th grader and older, are welcome to be a part of the class. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I look forward to seeing your 8th graders on April 24th.
Bible Study “Suffering”
June 12, 19 and 26th 9:oo am Bible Study Series of Three (3)“Suffering”
When caught in the midst of pain, loss, or hardships, it is easy to ask how a good and gracious God could allow suffering to exist. Many look for answers in His omnipotence, and many turn away and curse Him for it. While there is no simple answer, the “Suffering” course will explore the grace of God that is found within suffering, and how Jesus confronted the hardships of this world. Pulling from literature such as Tim Keller’s, “Walking with God through Pain and Suffering” and J. Todd Billings, “Rejoicing in Lament,” the goal of the course is to equip members of Pali Pres to navigate difficult seasons by examining the stories of Jesus, Paul and Job. By exploring God’s mercies and character in times of trial, we hope to learn how to both experience suffering in a way that is glorifying to God, and aid others when they are suffering as well.
Led by Jeremy Megginson from Collective Church, West LA B.A. Communication, Minor Natural Science from USC. As an
adolescent, Jeremy’s main desire was to help people; so, he decided to be a doctor, studied pre-Med at USC, graduating
in Communications with a Natural Science Minor. Slowly God revealed to Jeremy that his heart was fixated on the wealth and
pride that came with being a physician, rather than the honest desire to help people. God was faithful, and taught Jeremy that
true health comes from a faith in Jesus Christ. Through prayer, mentor guidance, and experience, the Lord revealed that Jeremy’s strengths would be most suited to ministry. Currently, Jeremy is the administrator of the Children’s Ministry at a church plant in West LA called Collective Church, plus working a sales job in hopes of developing his evangelism skills. He lives in Culver City.
